Disney has announced a collaboration with NBA Top Shot creator Dapper Labs to launch an NFT collectibles platform named Disney Pinnacle. This platform, inspired by Disney’s physical pins traded at theme parks, will feature digital collectibles minted as NFTs on the Flow blockchain, the same network as NBA Top Shot and NFL All Day.
Disney Pinnacle will include digital pins based on popular characters from Disney, Pixar, and Star Wars franchises, such as Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Disney Princesses, and Darth Vader. Notably, Marvel, also owned by Disney, is not mentioned in the initial announcement, with Dapper Labs CEO Roham Gharegozlou stating that Marvel won’t be included “at launch.”
Designed specifically for mobile use, Disney Pinnacle aims to provide a user-friendly experience, with Gharegozlou highlighting improvements for accessibility and a well-balanced economy catering to both everyday fans and high-end collectors. The platform has opened its waitlist, and a gradual onboarding process for beta testing will precede the full launch, with no specified timeline for the public rollout.
Dapper Labs gained prominence through the success of NBA Top Shot in 2021, following its earlier CryptoKitties project on Ethereum. The Flow blockchain was developed to support broader consumer applications like collectibles platforms and games. Disney Pinnacle’s announcement coincides with a perceived resurgence in the NFT market, and Gharegozlou expressed optimism about the future of NFT technology, anticipating improved products in the years to come.
